Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
Hello, Friends, I am Sarang Khokhar. Once again with a new article. today I have decided to write on a very common topic. a topic that everybody knows about, everybody talks and brags about improving it. But still, there are a lot of misconceptions around it. In today’s article, I will try to cover everything I know and I think you should be knowing about Indian education system. And what is wrong with it.
What is Education?
I would like to start from the word ‘Education” itself. It means “the theory and practice of teaching” Or simply the process by which an individual is receiving or giving systematic instruction. Especially at a school or university. So Education system means the System which is designed and evolved to educate students. So the definitions are very general and do not provide any specific details on how the education system should be. There is no strong world centralized authority instructing nations to change or improve their education quality. So, With the passage of time every country has created and evolved own education system with own merits and flaws.
How Indian Education system evolved
To better deal with problems and flaws in Indian education system, We should we well aware of History of the Indian education system. Of course, we are not going into very deep details here. But still, we should have birds view. In ancient times Indian subcontinent had gurukuls for the training of weaponry and religious texts and scriptures. Before the advent of Muslim rulers like Mohammed Ghazni and Ghori, Mainly Hindu, Jain and Buddhist scriptures were taught. But after Muslim rulers after 1000 Ad till Mughals, madrassas and mosques taught Islamic religious texts from holy Quran. In the course of the history of the Indian subcontinent, Education meant only weaponry and religion. Religion for Spirituality and weaponry for health,
But after Muslim rulers after 1000 Ad till Mughals, madrassas and mosques taught Islamic religious texts from holy Quran. in the course of the history of the Indian subcontinent, Education meant only weaponry and religion. Religion for Spirituality and weaponry for health, bravery and wars. That system proved to be very successful, as pupils were very obedient and gurus were very spiritual and expert in their things. But comparing that to today’s Student-teacher relationships talks about our current education system a lot.
How Indian Education system took its present form
So, the question arises exactly when this system changed and took its current form. As the story goes, With the advent of British rule in India, the crucial phase of pre-industrialization and modernization. The spiritual part lost from the education all around the imperial world. It was the starting of the machine age, Physics and other sciences got more reputation and as competition increased. And education system became a race. The motive of getting educated gradually shifted from self-betterment and refinement to becoming superior to others to get ahead in the race and financial gains. As this infected education system grew in India, the competition and the burden got intensified and an exponential growth took place.
Govt should improve Indian Education system
So due to all these happenings, A system supposed to support curiosity, experiments and questions started oppressing them. And very insignificant tools like, Exams, tests and marks became significant, causing a huge harm to mental as well as the physical state of students around the world. Countries like Sweden, Finland, Australia and Norway have already improved their education systems a lot, But just like how India is not revoking article 377, it is not doing anything about the education system.
I know that there are many other serious problems (Farmers are dying, Babri masjid problem) Still I think, Improving education system should get priority. An improved education system will ensure educated citizens who will become voters and will eventually lead the nation.
Citizens need to wake up to demand their rights
In the present political scenario of our country, Govt is not in the mood of such improvements in the education system. Because there are very deep and hidden intentions of govt. I will not go into details about such things in this article. I want to end this article by saying, If we Indians want any change in our Education system, We have to wake up and raise our voice. We have to start initiative from our own homes. Let us teach our children Marks are not everything, Let us help our younger siblings discover their passion. Let us change our society, Let’s just not complain but act.
Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.
